Essie Gel Couture Review and Swatches (Model Citizen, and Dress Call)

Hello lovelies!  I am here today with a review of the new Essie Gel Couture range which has just been released here in Canada.  This range offers a wide range of shades that are meant to last at least two weeks on the nails, if you use the Essie Gel Couture Topcoat.  The first shade I purchased was Model Citizen, which is a lovely carnation pink.  I only grabbed one of these at first, as they are a bit pricey, retailing for about $12.99 at my local Walmart.  I wanted to test one of these badboys out before I bought multiple shades.  I went back and bought a second after about a week of wearing Model Citizen because I was so impressed!

These apply pretty nicely, and Model Citizen was opaque after three coats.  The second shade I purchased, Dress Call, was opaque after two coats.  With the topcoat, they dry fairly quickly, I would say comparable to my holy grail favourite, Essie Good-to-Go.  Now, I should preface this review with the fact that I have pretty peel-y nails.  Polish tends to last only a few days on me before it starts to chip at the top, due to the nature of my nails.  I was honestly blown away by how long this polish lasted on me.  You can see in the picture below that at 10 days, my nails were still, for the most part, intact.  Ignore the pointer finger, as I picked at that one.  If you have normal, non-peely nails, these will likely last the full 14 days on you.  Something funny I noticed, however, was that by day 11, the polish on one of my nails had started to peel up at the bottom, and I pulled the whole shebang right off my nail.  Has anyone else had this experience?

I am definitely going to need more of these shades, the two I am coveting right now are Make the Cut, which is a pearlized beige shade, and Off-Duty Style which is a creamy teal.  Such a gorgeous range of shades, even those of us with impressively large collections will find a few unique shades we will just have to have.
