Bath and Body Works Haul ❤ Fall Favourites

September has always symbolized a fresh start for me, I always liked back-to-school shopping, and the change of the seasons.  I've been done with school for awhile, but I still get that happy feeling when I walk into a store, and they are selling school supplies. September is also the month of my birthday, which gets me excited as well.

I've never been a huge fan of summer, because I do not like the heat.  We have had a pretty strange summer here in Vancouver, with the temps going up as high as 34 C in the past week.  We may get a couple more 30 C days this week as well, which just plain sucks, IMO!  I can't wait until it is sweater weather as far as the eye can see.

I am loving me some fall shopping.  Bath and Body Works definitely knows what it is doing when it comes to the Fall/Winter scents.  I grabbed some goodies in a recent sale, and you can bet, they were all fall-scented!

I grabbed three soaps, Marshmallow Pumpkin Latte, Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin, and Crisp Morning Air (which is already in use, and thus not in the photo.)  I really wanted Autumn Spiced Strawberry but they did not have that in my store yet; it sounds very intriguing!  I also got four scent portables, which I have multiple uses for.  I stuck a Sweater Weather scent portable under my desk at work, as it helps to create a soft fragrance to the room with out being overwhelming.  I also will likely put one in my car, and above the bathroom mirror.  The scents I got are Cinnamon Caramel Swirl, Pumpkin Apple, Marshmallow Pumpkin Latte, and Sweater Weather.  I grabbed two shower gels in Marshmallow Pumpkin Latte, and Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin.  Lastly, I picked up a hand cream in Golden Autumn Day.

Marshmallow Pumpkin Latte is a very sweet smell, and I love it.  I have had the body spray in this fragrance in my desk at work since last fall, and use it pretty much daily.  Golden Autumn Day is the perfect introductory fall scent, as it mixed citrusy notes, and the smell of autmn leaves.  The citrus scent helps to transition from summer to fall.

What fall scents do you have an eye on?  Bring on the chilly temps, and the sweaters!!!

Essie Gel Couture Review and Swatches (Model Citizen, and Dress Call)

Hello lovelies!  I am here today with a review of the new Essie Gel Couture range which has just been released here in Canada.  This range offers a wide range of shades that are meant to last at least two weeks on the nails, if you use the Essie Gel Couture Topcoat.  The first shade I purchased was Model Citizen, which is a lovely carnation pink.  I only grabbed one of these at first, as they are a bit pricey, retailing for about $12.99 at my local Walmart.  I wanted to test one of these badboys out before I bought multiple shades.  I went back and bought a second after about a week of wearing Model Citizen because I was so impressed!

These apply pretty nicely, and Model Citizen was opaque after three coats.  The second shade I purchased, Dress Call, was opaque after two coats.  With the topcoat, they dry fairly quickly, I would say comparable to my holy grail favourite, Essie Good-to-Go.  Now, I should preface this review with the fact that I have pretty peel-y nails.  Polish tends to last only a few days on me before it starts to chip at the top, due to the nature of my nails.  I was honestly blown away by how long this polish lasted on me.  You can see in the picture below that at 10 days, my nails were still, for the most part, intact.  Ignore the pointer finger, as I picked at that one.  If you have normal, non-peely nails, these will likely last the full 14 days on you.  Something funny I noticed, however, was that by day 11, the polish on one of my nails had started to peel up at the bottom, and I pulled the whole shebang right off my nail.  Has anyone else had this experience?

I am definitely going to need more of these shades, the two I am coveting right now are Make the Cut, which is a pearlized beige shade, and Off-Duty Style which is a creamy teal.  Such a gorgeous range of shades, even those of us with impressively large collections will find a few unique shades we will just have to have.

Spring NOTD - Julie G in Romeo ❤

Hey all!  It's been awhile since I posted, because I have horrible time management skills.  I have been super inspired lately by all of the bright, awesome colours that come around this time of year.  Here is a NOTD featuring the only Julie G polish I have in my collection.  This one I received in my Lip Monthly bag in September 2014.  I have to say, I was kind of disappointed with this polish.  It took about three coats to get this level of opacity, which is pretty meh.  The colour is gorgeous though!  I did an accent nail using Maybelline Color Show in the shade Gilded Rose.

If you wondering what that mark is on my finger... I cut myself trying to open a cupcake box. Worth it.

What are some of your fave Spring shades?

Strawberry Oat Bars ❤ Recipe

Happy February, all!  Today I have for you a delicious, Valentine-themed treat.  This is a recipe that my mom has made for us since I was little.  It is sooooo delicious.  I think the strawberry jam makes it very festive for Valentine's Day.  If you're not into strawberries, you can substitute any jam you like.  We are going to make this again soon, but with apricot jam, drool.

1 cup White Flour
1 Cup Rolled Oats
1/2 Cup packed Brown Sugar
1/2 cup Margarine
1/4 tsp Baking Soda
1/8 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp Cinnamon
3/4 Cup Strawberry Jam

Mix all of the ingredients together (except the jam), cut the margarine in until it makes pea sized crumbs.  Press two cups of the mixture into the bottom of a greased 8 in. by 8 in. pan.  Spread the jam evenly across the bottom, staying 1/4 inches from the edge.  Sprinkle the remaining crumbs on the top, press gently into the jam.  Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.  Let cool before you cut!

This is a very easy, and tasty dessert that would suit any occasion!  I would like to note that I typed almost this entire post with a cat sitting in front of my monitor, so there's that.

A Touch of Spice ❤ Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Double Dare

Like so many others, I have been borderline obsessed with liquid lipsticks lately.  My favourite liquid lipstick brands are Sephora, Julep, and of course, Kat Von D!  I own three shades so far, Lovesick, Double Dare, and one of the Lolitas.  I have no idea which Lolita I own, I tried googling it and got pretty confused.  All I know is that it looks dark, dark brown on me, and is not very flattering, so it has just stayed in my drawer!  I got it in one of the Sephora Lip Favourite sets.

The other two shades I have are absolutely wonderful.  Lovesick is my most worn lipstick of 2015, it is a gorgeous pinky, mauve shade, which I will make a post about soon.  The other shade is Double Dare, which you can see on my lips in the pic above!  It is described as a "Cocoa Blush" on Sephora's website.  I think it is a really lovely spice colour.  These colours seem to be getting more, and more popular lately.  I would describe this shade as medium intensity.  It is not a nude, but not really an "in your face" colour either.

These lipsticks are super easy to apply, and go on perfectly in one coat, in my experience.  I want to try more, but whenever I go to swatch them at Sephora I can't find one I want to try.  I want to try one of the nudes, but I am not sure which would look good on my fair skin tone.  Any recommendations?

Happy New Year!

I have always adopted the mentality that a new year is blossoming with new opportunities, and fresh starts. I am committed to making 2016 the best year yet!  No more waiting for happiness to kick me in the teeth, I am going to become an active participant in my life, and seek out the joy in every day.  I've thought a lot about my resolutions for this year, and came to the following conclusion.

So often our New Year's resolutions involve making decisions to be less in someway. To weigh less, to spend less, to care less about what other people think. This year I am going to make the resolution to be "more" instead. To love more, to sleep more, to be more health conscious .
More grateful.
More present.
More patient.
More aware of the impact I can make on the world just by being a little bit more every day.

To give myself more room to make mistakes, and to ask questions.

To be more comfortable in my own skin, and to know that I'm doing my best.

To realize that the more I rush through life with blinders on striving for that next arbitrary goal that will bring me "fulfillment", the more I am missing all the little things along the way that are the true key to happiness.
Here's to 2016, the year I resolve to be more in awe of my life, and the amazing people who are in it.
What's your "more" this year?
