Ipsy Glam Bag: July 2014 'Sensationally Sunkissed'

I have been a subscriber of Ipsy since August 2013.  Here is how it is described on the website:

"Each month, subscribers will receive a beautiful Glam Bag with deluxe samples and full-sized beauty products. Members can watch and play along with the stylists with the same products that they are using. All for only $10 a month."

The shipping is $4.95 per month on top of the $10 for the bag.  I have been receiving this subscription for almost a year, and there has never been a month where I didn't feel that the $14.95 was totally worth it.  Let me show you what I got in my box this month!

Here is what the makeup bag looks like for July:

I really liked this one, I think it is the perfect little makeup bag for summer.  As an 80s kid, anything fluorescent pink like this always gets me.  The only thing that could have made it better is if it were green!

On to the products.  I will talk about them in order of awesomeness (based on my own opinion, of course).

Pixi Tinted Brilliance Balm in the shade 'Pretty Pink' ($22)
This balm is completely gorgeous!  It applies very smoothly, and opaquely like a liquid lipstick, but has the texture and consistency of a lip balm.  The colour is a medium pink shade that is described as a 'Summer Pink' on the Pixi website.  I love this shade, but I want to try something more in the red, or dark pink family, as I feel that these types of medium pink shades don't make my teeth look very white.

bareMinerals READY® Eyeshadow 2.0 in the shade 'The Inspiration' ($25 at Sephora):

I haven't had a chance to use this yet, but they swatch beautifully on the back of the hand.  It comes with a light pink highlight shade called 'Muse', and a smoky plum shade called 'Passion'.  I think this will be a great duo for fall.

Models Own nail polish in the shade 'Red Sea' ($9.50 on nailpolishcanada.com):

I love me some nail polish!  This is a sheer, bright, red shade with multi-colour flakes of glitter.  I always prefer flakes versus round glitter as I consider it to look more multidimensional when it catches the light.  This applies nicely;  I am currently wearing it as an accent nail with another polish I received from my Topbox this month (stay tuned for a blog post on that next week).

Clear Clinic Laboratories Vanished Clear Spot Treatment ($35 for 7.5ml on clearcliniclabs.com):

This sample is 2ml.  I am going to try it, but I rarely get excited about anything skincare related because I already have an established routine.  I have sensitive, and acne-prone skin so I don't like to try a lot of new things and just stick to something effective and consistent.

Pur~lisse pur~protect essential daily moisturizer SPF 30 ($55 for 50ml shop.purlisse.com):

This is a 15ml sample size.  Same as with the spot treatment, this kind of thing just is not my jam.  I find sunscreen to be a boring, bag-filler type product.  I'll probably just give this away and buy something at the drugstore for a fraction of the cost.

So three out of the five products were huge wins for me.  If you consider the cost of the bag ($14.95), and the cost of those three products ($50+), it is well worth it.  Even when you only get a deluxe sample, and not a full-size, such as with the Pixi balm.  I almost NEVER use a whole, full-size lipstick anyways, and the mini ones fit better in my purse.  You also get discounts on most products that come in your bag.  For example, because I got an Ipsy bag, I can get 25% off any purchase on the Pixi website.

I highly recommend this as a subscription if you are curious and have never tried one.  It's affordable, you get a sweet little makeup bag, and you get a variety of good high-end products to try.
