Nerd-up #1: The Spider-man (Electric Chrome) Collection by Revlon

I went into Shopper's Drug Mart recently to browse, and finally came across a display of Revlon's Spider-man Collection (aka the Electric Chrome collection)!  I was beyond excited, because this kind of collection combines two of my favourite things:  nerdiness and beauty!  Hence the name of this post:  Nerd-up!

I was able to grab the gloss in Killer-Watt, and the nail polish in Spidey Sense!  I am relieved that my store didn't have the blue gloss (Electro Shock), as I am sure I would have been compelled to buy it just based on the novelty.  The gloss I did get is a pretty deep pink, almost red, colour with a fine red/blue glitter in it.  You can't see the glitter unless you get really close to the mirror, so if anyone calls you on it just tell them they are too damn close.

The nail polish is the real winner here.  It is hard to capture how beautiful this is on camera.  The glitter in it is so fine, it almost glows on your nails.  This is going to be the perfect red come Christmas time.  ONE COAT ALERT.  I am shocked by how smooth and pigmented this polish looks with just one coat.  I applied this with my Seche Vite top coat to give it some extra shine.

I would say that if you are on a budget and get one thing from this collection, go for one of the polishes. They are truly spectacular, and I know I will have to employ a lot of restraint to avoid picking up more.  The gloss is sheer, and non-sticky, but overall, fairly average.

I am going to see The Amazing Spider-man 2 next weekend (already got my tix in Ultra AVX), so excited!! I love ANYTHING from Marvel.  I wish that brands would put out more tv and movie based make-up collections.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Amsterdam

For the most part, I love the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams.  I have had to restrain myself from ordering all of their new shades online.  However, this one is really not stellar.  The colour is stunning when applied; a really sultry, deep red.  Unfortunately, about one hour after applying this sucker it starts to wear off in a really sketchy way.  It stayed really well around the line of my lips, but majorly wore out on the other areas.  I think there are definitely better matte reds out there.  I would recommended going for one of the Revlon Matte Kissable Balm Stains!!

See my much more glowing review of the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Sao Paulo here.

NYX can be bought in London Drugs, Save-on-Foods, and Funk n Frost stores in Canada!

Cherry Culture Lip Balm in Banana

I placed an order to Cherry Culture a couple of months back (NYX ahoy!).  One of the bonuses at checkout was one of the Cherry Culture lip balms for $1.00.  I fracking love lip balm, so I was all over that.

They had soooo many flavours, but I settled on banana.  This stuff is so good, it has replaced all of my EOS balms in my nighttime routine.  It's thick, and fantastically nourishing.  It doesn't have a taste, but it smells just like banana Laffy Taffy!  This is a must try.  I'm pretty sure I will be ordering all of the other flavours with my next Cherry Culture order!

Review: LUSH Santa's Lip Scrub

I've used one of LUSH's lip scrubs before and I really enjoyed it.  However, this one was not my cup of tea.  I bought this just before Christmas (shocker!).  I've used it a handful of times since then and there is a number of things that I am not too keen on.  The first is the weird smell.  It smells a bit like bathroom cleaner.  I am not too sure where I am getting this from, but whenever I use it it makes me kind of queasy.  The taste is not amazing either.  The look of the product is really fun.  It is a bright red colour with red, heart shaped sprinkles inside.  It DOES exfoliate the lips fairly well, which is a bonus, but overall it is just not worth the hype.  I would recommend just making your own lip scrub at home.  Lastly, it stains around your mouth, and the finger you used to scrub as well, because having one brightly dyed finger isn't weird...
