Bath and Body Works Haul: The Spring 'Sun, Sky, and Air Collection'

I love Bath and Body Works so much that I have had to put a personal limit on the amount of times I am allowed to puruse the store each year.  My new strategy, which I have been putting in place since Fall 2013, is to only go once per season.  As soon as their Spring stuff was released I was in there like gangbusters! They had a buy 3, get 3 free deal, which is hard to pass up.  Here is what I got!

Mad About You (mini perfume spray):
I just can't resist these small bottles of perfume that Bath and Body Works seem to release so often.  This one smells of peonies, black currant, and vanilla musk.  These are great to have in your purse.  Note:  always check to make sure yours has a sprayer on it before you head to the checkout! I got home once to find that mine didn't, and I never ended up bringing it back because I lost the receipt.

Violet Lily Sky (Shower Gel, and Mini Fragrance Mist):
This one smells amazing, and reminds me of something I used to wear in high school.  It's a mix of violet, bergamot, pink pepper, lily and sandalwood.

Golden Magnolia Sun (Shower Gel):
Pink magnolia, golden apricot, peony, vanilla, and cassis nectar make up the scents for this lovely rose coloured shower gel.

Pear Blossom Air (Shower Gel):
I think this one is likely to be my favourite once I give all of them a try.  This one smells like pear, gardenia, narcissus leaf, mandarin, and musk.

Sweet Shop Hang soaps in Lemon Chiffon Tart and Pink Vanilla Macaron (Foaming Hand Soaps):
This line of soaps is truly irresistible.  They smell so incredibly sweet and fresh.  I also think that the colours of these epitomize Springtime.  Lemon Chiffon Tart has lemon, grapefruit, and verbana blossom notes.  Pink Vanilla Macaron has vanilla, pink passionfruit and red raspberries.  Such a feminine scent!

Velvet Sugar (Mini Shower Gel, and Mini Fragrance Mist):
I had no intention of buying these as they do not appear to be from the Spring collection.  However, the packaging on these was just so interesting and made me think of Valentine's Day, so I had to grab them up.  This smells like red velvet creme, golden plum, sugared musk, pink jasmine, and strawberries.

Stay tuned for a review on these products once I get a chance to use them.  I think the Sky, Sun, and Air collection is gorgeous.  The packaging is so appealing and really makes me feel Springy!

Coastal Scents: Forever Blush Set

I'll file this one under the I regret nothing category.  I had been oogling the Forever Blushes ever since I saw Emily's review on her beautybroadcastx channel (video linked here).  I was initially going to just buy a few, but I honestly could not justify the shipping cost.  I told myself that if Coastal Scents had another 50% off sale, I would just buy the whole set.  Two weeks later, they did and I held true to my word.  There was a bit of an, "OMG, what did you just do" feeling when I initially placed my order, but now that I have these in my hands, I honestly am so glad I took the plunge.

The following post is going to be as comprehensive as possible.  I am going to show swatches, and organize them into their different finishes.  Continue reading to see.  This WILL be pic heavy :)  Expect reviews of these to follow once I have a chance to play around with them.

The Best

Looking through all of these blushes, I would have to say the one that truly blew me away was Charming.  It is an insanely original colour, and it totally fits the bill for Radiant Orchid, Pantone' s 2014 colour of the year.

The Worst

I would have to see that I was least pleased with Dashing because it feels like more of a bronzer colour than a blush to me.  This would really not suit my skin tone, and I don't typically wear bronzer, so I am not sure what I will do with this one!

The Fail

I had two malfunctions upon delivery of these products.  The first was my fault, I popped the plastic out of the top of one of them in my eagerness to get to the inside.  In my defense, these products were super-wrapped.  They came in bubble wrap, inside a box, with more bubble wrap, AND a plastic seal.  The second malfunction was that one of the mirrors had come unglued from inside the blush and fallen into the product.  Luckily, it did not cause very much damage (see Enchanting).

I hope this post helps you decide which colours you might be interested in trying!

Revlon Parfumerie in Ginger Melon

I am so ready to get into some Spring nail polish colours.  I knew I wanted to try one of these new Parfumerie polishes, so I grabbed the one that had the right colour/scent combo for me.  I really could not fathom what ginger melon might smell like, but I knew it couldn't be bad.  The first coat of this applied nicely, and I think if you were careful with your application you could probably get away with one coat.  I am typically not very careful with my application so I went in for a second coat.  The weirdest thing was that once the second coat was applied, it looked incredibly streaky.  The first coat was smooth, but the second coat when on streaky, and you could see some patchiness.  It levelled out a bit when it dried, but you can see on my ring finger in this picture some of what I am talking about.  Overall, the smell wasn't very strong or impressive.  It definitely did not smell like ginger, or melon.  I would say it just smelled sweet.  My overall recommendation is to just pass these over.  Unless you want to buy it for the aesthetic of the bottle, I wouldn't recommend the price tag on these.

Results of Weekly Challenge #1!

The week is over and the challenge is complete!  I have to say that this challenge really made me appreciate the amount of options I typically have when choosing what makeup I wear.  I enjoyed getting to know these products more this week, but I also found myself craving other products!  I highly recommend trying this, it is a real trip!  Here is a link to the original challenge.

On with the reviews!

Sleek Eyeshadow Palette:  Oh So Special!

I definitely think that working all week with these matte colours helped me learn how to blend.  However, I definitely missed some shimmer on my eyes!

Benefit Mascara:  They're Real!

I am a convert to this mascara after using it all week.  This mascara gave me beautiful, long, thick lashes that were not clumped together.  Pretty much everything you would want in a mascara.

Brows:  Maybelline Great Lash in Clear

As always, this is a staple for me and I have never tried anything else in my brows.

Primer:  Benefit The Porefessional

I still don't really like this stuff.  I would say that I am pretty much ambivalent at this point, I don't think it really did anything for my skin or foundation.

Covergirl Foundation:  Stay Fabulous in 905

Still infatuated!

Concealer:  Revlon Age Defying Concealer

My new favourite way to wear this concealer is right in the corner of my eye to help brighten.  It blends really easily and has fairly good coverage.

Blush:  Revlon Cream Blush in Charmed

These blushes blend so easily when applied with a stipple brush, I can see why there was so much hype.  I am glad I grabbed this shade and Coral Reef when I saw them because I have not seen any of these anywhere for weeks!!

Highlighter:  Benefit High Beam

I'm not super jazzed about this highlighter.  I think powder is easier to work with and makes more of a statement.  Long live Mary Loumanizer!

Powder:  MAC Studio Fix in N4

Another staple in my collection, and I finally hit pan :)

Hard Candy All Glossed-up in Love Bite

This stuff is just great.  It applies so smoothly, and is incredibly creamy.  It definitely stains the lips, and I found that I applied it several times throughout the day anyways because the stain was more fuchsia than berry, and I thought the berry colour was a lot prettier.

I think I'll try doing another challenge next week, maybe something new!

NOTD: Julep Claudette

This NOTD is brought to you by Julep's Claudette.  I went for something more traditional after my Julep Clara fiasco, which you can read about here.  That particular colour just did not do it for me, so I went for something I knew I would like.  Claudette is a creamy, brick-toned red.  It goes on relatively well in two coats.  I feel like these more muted shades of red can go with almost anything, whether it's a day at work or a night out.  It's a very sophistacted red while still being somewhat different than the traditional red shades you might wear.  My basecoat was Essie Grow Stronger, (which I am almost out of!), and my topcoat was Seche Vite.  I took a break from my Julep TADA quick-drying drops because I am not sure if I am totally sold on those yet.  Expect a full review soon!
